The mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Rabbi Eliezer Berland in Southern Africa is becoming clearer: Rabbi Berland is in Zimbabwe, along with several associates, including Gabi Ben Harosh. The Rabbi is flying from place to place in the neighboring country of South Africa, where a private jet accompanies them from place to place.

Contrary to reports, Rabbi Berland avoided going to South Africa where there is a large Orthodox community, probably because the largest and most developed country in the region, has an extradition treaty with Israel.

Rabbi Berland, as recalled, left Morocco last Thursday after King Mohammed VI asked him to leave, for fear of being hurt.

Today in an interview with the official newspaper, the Moroccan King said that Rabbi Berland knows that he could have stayed in Morocco but people from the Jewish community who are not religious, are those who agitated the atmosphere for Rabbi Berland.

Rabbi Berland himself who left, conditioned his departure and said: "I will stay only if they do not hurt my students."

A factor in Shuvu Banim says to Behadrey Haredim: The Rabbi is safe with people who have very strong connections in South Africa, it is difficult to know when the Rabbi will return to Morocco and whether it will happen at all."
