Lahav 433 Unit investigators in the Israel Police questioned those close to Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky on suspicion that he too was a victim of blackmail in the Domrani case.

As part of the ongoing case against the head of the criminal organization Shalom Domrani, who allegedly blackmailed Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Ifergan, "the X-ray", police also suspected that Hagaon R' Chaim Kanievsky was a victim of extortion.

During the elections, R' Chaim called to support the candidacy of Yechiel Zohar to mayor of Netivot, who was also the candidate supported by Domrani.

Zohar was also supported by Rabbi Yoram Abergel and Rabbi Shmuel Montag, who also brought to the support of Degel HaTorah of the elected mayor.

The investigators suspected that associates, or R' Chaim himself, were blackmailed by Domrani, and questioned the associates and family members on the subject. Investigators wondered what brought R' Chaim to arrive from Bnei Brak to Netivot a day before the election.

A police spokesman declined to comment on reports. At the same time, this morning police forces raided several businesses in Ashkelon which belong to associates of Domrani, who allegedly operated without a permit.

Meanwhile: tomorrow at 11am, at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court, a remand hearing of Rabbi Yoram Abergel who is suspected in the blackmail affair, will take place. .
