Fitness denial? Hgr"a Yosef against Rabbi David Stav

Yesterday (Monday) the new Chief Rabbinate Council met for its first meeting.

During the meeting they raised the matter of the judges fitness, fitness the Rabbinate Council should renew every two years, with renewal includes providing capacity for new judges who wish to receive it.

But what began as a confirmation of sweeping all holders of the existing fitness, was stopped a short time after Rabbi Avraham Yosef, the rabbi of Holon, said that he has reservations concerning the renewal of fitness of Rabbi David Stav. Recall Stav is the head rabbi of the Rabbinical Zohar Organization, and presented candidacy in the last elections for chief rabbi position.

It is worth mentioning that Harav Ovadia Yosef zt"l strongly objected to Rabbi Stav, sharply attacked him and when he heard that the Hgr"s Amar concocted a deal with him - ordered Shas Knesset members to overthrow the Amar Law.

However, eventually objection fell to wherever they came, a vote was taken back - during which the rabbis supported unanimously renewed fitness and qualification remains in the record.
