Wedding at the 'shawl cult': After a long struggle - including in court - the parents of an 18 year old girl, caught a long time ago in the sect, family members of the girl attended her wedding this afternoon (Thursday), which was held under a veil of secrecy, with a boy of 18, who belongs to the cult.
At first the wedding was supposed to take place in the Beis Yaakov Hayashan hall in Jerusalem. However, the sect members decided at the last minute to move the chuppah to a side yard of a house in Geulah, in order to try to prevent the bride's father from participating in the wedding. The attempt failed after the bride's parents learned of the new location.
During the preparation towards the wedding, a mini-drama occurred: The bride and her mother refused to wear shawls on their bodies during the ceremony. The chosson's family insisted on that vehemently - and pressured the bride and her family. The pressures helped and at about 16:30 the bride and groom went out of the house to the center of the courtyard, accompanied by their parents and relatives - and then the wedding was held. One of the rabbis of the shawl cult was Messader Kiddushin.
A drama took place around the wedding in the last six months, when the bride's parents tried to release her from the sect - and the struggle reached its peak at the courthouse - where her parents took out a restraining order of leaving the country, after rising concern that the sect will manage to smuggle her out of Israel.
Recently, members of the sect tried to marry the girl with boys from the cult, but always at the last minute relatives managed to thwart the wedding.
Today, after her family agreed to marry her off to the boy – the chupah took place.
