Due to a slight aircraft accident which occurred on the runway at the airport in Berlin, Germany, the field was closed and takeoff did not occur until Friday afternoon.
EL AL Flight 352 was forced to delay the flight departure time. But because the plane could not take off until the late afternoon, and considering the flight time – which will land if and when only during Shabbos, EL AL decided to the leave the plane in Berlin until Motzei Shabbos.
All the passengers were scattered in hotels in the city. EL AL management lead by Rabbi Yochanan Hayot contacted Chabad emissaries in the city, the rabbis Yehuda Teichtal and Shmuel Segal, to help in the treatment of passengers who observe Shabbos and care for Shabbos organization needs for them.
Indeed, the Chabad House quickly organized the delivery of kosher Shabbos meals to the hotel which housed EL AL passengers, and some passengers have already called to thank the EL AL Company for their care and treatment to allow them the proper Shabbos observance.
EL AL CEO, Eliezer Shkedi followed after the proceedings at all times, seeking to know that all the passengers were arranged properly.
EL AL said: "The Company is committed to the usual Shabbos observance and has always been, and no flight will not take off or land during Shabbos, even when it involves a high cost to society."
