Tons of divrei kedusha damaged during hurricane Sandy, rolling in collecting areas, trailers, and plastic garbage bags and wait their interment.
Next month they will be joined by thousands of items that are added every Erev Pesach hold.
The problem is that American law prohibits burying archiving in cemeteries, and for burial one must obtain a special permit for allocation of land.
Intervention of Assemblyman Dov Hikind, the Environment Ministry approved the burial Hof geniza in a special area in Orange County Town in Monroe.
Hikind announced that during the period between Purim and Passover, there will be available to the public six trailers which will collect the remains of the geniza, in Borough Park, Williamsburg and Monsey.
The world organization for geniza, responsible for the initiative, says: "The situation is intolerable. Holy books, Tefillin and Mezuzahs damaged months ago in the hurricane are rolling around disgracefully together with sidurim, chumashim and other holy books.
"Although there are places where they are kept in storage, but in places like Far Rockaway and Seagate which were hit hard by the storm, huge amounts of divrei kodesh have piled up and waiting archiving, in boxes or huge piles in yards covered with plastic sheets."
