Even in Rome, as a Jew: a popular Italian singer has set an ultimatum to producers of a well know song contest in the country: either I, or Shabbos!
According to the report on NRG, the famous reggae singer, Raiz Gennaro Della Volpe, who according to reports in Italy, keeps Shabbos, decided to retire and give up his participation in the show, due to the fact that it was on Shabbos. The Italian newspaper La Stampa, which delivered the news, says Volpe converted many years ago and since then keeps Shabbis and Jewish law.
According to Italian media reports, Volpe told members of his band, Alamgrta, who is a solo member that he will not participate in the competition and presented them with two options: a video projection of the performing band, or alternatively they appear without him.
Festival of Songs and Italian songs is a contest held every year in San Remo since 1951 and is considered very Italian, but it crosses the border and gets extensive coverage worldwide.
This statement, caused excitement among the Jewish community in Italy, where they said that "It is a Kiddush Hashem."
