State of Israel officially admits: Israeli citizen who also held foreign citizenship was arrested, held under a false identity for security reasons, and committed suicide two years ago.
Most of the other details of the case imposed a gag order, but tonight (Wednesday) the Attorney General allowed publishing "The Prison Service held a prisoner who was an Israeli citizen and also held foreign citizenship. For reasons of security, the prisoner held under a false identity, but his family was immediately notified of the arrest ".
It was also stated that he was presented on all the proceedings conducted in the case by attorneys Roy Blecher and Boaz Ben – Zur.
"The prisoner was being held in jail under a warrant issued by the competent court, the proceedings on the prisoner were accompanied by the highest officials at the Ministry of Justice, the state also admits that the prisoner was found dead in his cell two years ago. Following the death, the Magistrates Court in Rishon Letzion ordered on the investigation of the cause of death, which emerged about six weeks ago that it was suicide.
However, the court transferred the case to test by the Attorney General, to examine aspects of negligence. The other details of the case lay still, as stated, as a gag order.
These details emerged last night in an investigating program on Australian television, which identified the man named Ben Zygier - and earned him the nickname "Prisoner X".
According to the report, Zygier joined the Israeli Mossad, and was found hanging in a cell where he was held in solitary confinement in Ayalon Prison in Ramle, in December 2010. A week later his body was flown to Melbourne, his hometown. He was buried in a Jewish cemetery in the city on December 22 during the same year.
