'Kidnapping mother' case • doctor stated: child is not sick

The pursuit of the Lederman family affair nicknamed the "kidnapping mother", ended at least partially. After today (Tuesday), a private doctor met the family and checked the girl.

The Lederman family, which belongs to the 'Shawl Cult', buried a week ago an infant of two months and a half months after falling ill with the flu. When his parents were informed of his death, they refused to come to the hospital for various reasons, and only through Eideh Charedis activists, they met with a police investigator in a private apartment, where they signed the forms - and their son's body was released for burial.

24 hours later arrived reports came to the Jerusalem Welfare Department with evidence from neighbors, whereby another girl in the family, two and a half years old, is sick with the flu. On Motzei Shabbos, just after midnight, social workers came accompanied by police to the family home in Meah Shearim on Edmond Street, but found that the family had disappeared. Badatz Eideh Charedis convened and ruled that the parents must take the child for treatment.

But ever since the family of nine has gone into hiding, while the parents refused to bring the girl for treatment, which was suspected of being sick too.
Yesterday there was a significant shift, after the parents agreed that the child will pass a medical examination.

B'Chadrei Charedim learned this afternoon that a doctor was sent to where the family is hiding, but he was met with rejection by the mother - requiring that only a female doctor take care of her daughter - for reasons of modesty. Later in the evening, a private doctor came to see the child.

Acquaintance of the family said: "the short medical opinion written by the doctor stated that the daughter is not sick."

A source familiar with the details of the affair said that within the next two days reviews will be sent by Badatz Eideh Charedis and police elements, so that they will decide that the child and the lives of other children in the family are not in danger, and that family members can return to routine life.

Still afraid

However, B'Chadrei Charedim learned that the Lederman family hurried yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) to leave Jerusalem, because they were afraid that relatives will exert pressure to increase the search for their hiding place.

Yesterday the grandmother, Channah Lederman, attacked her son's way of life - the father, who joined the Shawl Cult - and his behavior in the affair. She gave an exclusive interview on the subject, to B'Chadrei Charedim.

A relative responded and said, "The grandmother turned a family conflict to a public affair to put pressure on her son and his family to return and be in contact.

"Her cries during the funeral last weekend were a silly game," he said. "She and her husband have been chasing their son for years and have come to throw salt on the wounds."
