Rabbi Meir Porush spoke today (Tuesday) to the Conference of Presidents at the Inbal Hotel in Jerusalem, and addressed the issue of recruiting of the Haredi sector. Porush explained decisively: "Whoever doesn’t sit and learn – must recruit," and said of his own experience: "When I quit learning, I stated that and I was summoned from the recruitment of the army".
Porush added, smiling, "Although I did not cross the channel, but I served in a special service called 'Step 2' for four months, and I carried out reserve services."
Porush addressed the question from the audience about the criticisms at the Yahadut Hatorah party which does not welcome foreigners who come to Israel: "Everyone who comes to Israel, is welcomed. Yet the question of the definition of Judaism depends on the law, not all those who live like an Israeli and buy Israeli products - can be defined as a Jew."
Yesterday the president of Israel, Shimon Peres, opened the Conference of Presidents meeting at the President's Residence. The first day of discussions was signed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with his support of the idea of two states for two peoples.
The conference will be hosted today by the major factions in the Knesset, including Yair Lapid, Naftali Bennett, Tzipi Livni, and Meir Porush and prominent personalities from the media and manufacturing industry in Israel.
