Chief Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar addressed tonight (Monday), the announcement of Pope Benedict the 16th for his retirement.

"Pope Benedict the 16th is notable and praised for his steadfastness and his hypothesis war for every discovery of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, at home and abroad," he said.

"The priest's determination stood out throughout his days against Priest Williamson's denial of the Holocaust in the walls of the church."

Rabbi Amar added and praised the Pope that "we remember his many sayings that were the basis of proper relationship between the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the Jewish people and the Church. I specifically remember him saying that G-d has not forsaken the covenant with the Jewish people. The Pope is also remembered as having said 'The Jews are our senior brothers, and increased and added that "the Jews are our ancestors."

The Rabbi completed a blessing for him and said: "I pray for his health and longevity of the warrior of justice, and I call upon the whole world to learn from his stance and condemn all manifestations of anti-Semitism wherever it takes place."
