Rabbinate against cooking courses and Chef Colleges: There are obstacles

Recent prosperous new phenomenon, influenced by the ratings Bulk TV show 'Master Chef', broadcast on Channel 2, in which an orthodox woman came to one of the first places: Orthodox women participate in cooking competitions, to win the coveted title. "While Channel 2 is looking for the next 'Master Chef' the ultra Orthodox sector is looking for one of its own," boasted factors behind the competition held recently.

The winner boasted to the crowd: "I proved to my extended and non-religious family, that a piece of meat can be good even without butter."

Contrary to the mother, the organizers explained, that here food is completely kosher - you will not find a calf cooked in his mother's milk and fruit are fruit from trees and not fruit from the sea, but the result is no less than the gourmet menus found in the most prestigious restaurants in Tel Aviv.

But, even if the final event is held according to kashrus, it is not yet known which kashrus factor gave his supervision during the season, during the cooking classes at the women's school in Jerusalem for art of cooking kosher, headed by Chef Yochanan Lambiasi - Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem, where there was a race to the finals, conducted by a leading chef.

Attempts to reach the school board to determine whether the competition had kashrus supervision of a qualified entity failed. Jerusalem Religious Council does not give supervision at the school.

Feedback published this week by the Rabbinate, notes that from time to time inquiries are received at the national training department, from citizens who wish to find out the status of training and various chef cooking college courses, held in several locations, including educational institutions, such as ORT school and the like.

We inform, that the study in this field without supervision by rabbinical authority, may involve kashrus obstacles such as: use of food products and raw materials without kashrus, mixing meat and milk, the use of treif knives and kitchen utensils, some of which are presented by the students themselves. Pupils who wish to study in this area should study at a school under certified Rabbinate, whose role would be to wisely prevent and according to the procedure for the obstacles mentioned above."
