Migrate from their home for the education of children: Tens of thousands of people come these days to the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the occasion of the annual carnival which takes place in the city, but the local Jewish community chooses rather to leave and go somewhere else.
Many families from the Jewish community do not want their children exposed to a lack of modesty which the carnival brings, so they move together to a resort town outside the city.
Yishai Bonny, a Bnei Akiva agent, told Channel 7: "Most members of the Jewish community in Rio already left the town last Friday to a town which is relatively close and quiet, named Trizopolis. Remaining members are preparing to travel there today or to different places. The carnival in Rio is known as a very extreme carnival, drunkards on the streets, and a real danger, and locals prefer to escape.
"These days on Rosh Chodesh Adar, Am Yisrael celebrates the real joy; joy of acceptance for redemption on Passover, a deeper joy inside the soul. Costumes on Purim and at the Carnival are complete opposites. On Purim the joy brings about giving gifts to the poor, and get closer to others, compared to the joy of the carnival which is obscene and licentiousness.
