Smuggling mother affair • Eida rabbis: remove child from family and provide care

Mea Shearim neighborhood residents woke up this morning to the sound of speakers, which called "According to the Av Beis Din of the Eida Hareidis, Harav Tuvia Weiss Shlita, anyone who knows where the Lederman family is, must update the neighborhood activists."

The call comes following the exposure of the Behadrey Haredim site, that last Friday requests were received by the Welfare Department of the Jerusalem Municipality by neighbors of the family living on Admon street in Mea Shearim neighborhood. The appeals stated that the family whose two and a half months old baby passed away last Thursday of flu, has another daughter aged two and a half sick with the flu, and parents - members of the "shawl sect" - do not take her for medical treatment.

Following requests, social workers contacted neighborhood activists. The latter shared these details with senior rabbis of the neighborhood, who decided to take the girl from the parents against their will, and hand her over to medical care.

It should be noted that after receiving complaints from neighbors, neighborhood activists turned to one of the leaders of the "shawl women, who tried to convince the parents to cooperate with authorities - and to take the child for medical treatment, but to no avail.

Last night - as we reported - police raided along with social workers, the family home on Admon street to take the girl from her parents, but the house was empty, after the parents managed to escape with the child.
