The Jewish community in Detroit, USA, was shaken: the inscription "Arbeit Macht Frei", which written above the gates of Auschwitz concentration camp, was found this morning (Wednesday), on the gate of a historic building in the city.

Passersby spotted this morning the inscription "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Brings Freedom) written in bold letters on the cover of a historic factory in the town.

The ADL expressed shock and said the graffiti is particularly offensive to Jews, especially Holocaust survivors.

John Balonge, lawyer of the site's owner said that the property owner does not know who wrote the graffiti, and that he was going to delete it soon.

As yet, the inscription has not been deleted. The local police opened an investigation.
