Tuesday morning. Ramallah streets were filled with residents. Most of them were at work, others still enjoying the tranquility surrounding the city streets. An Israeli convoy of vehicles headed by Shaid Rajoub, brother of Jabril Rajoub, a senior PA politician, manages to stimulate the curiosity of the residents.
Inside the cars are sitting an Orthodox group, who were to an unusual meeting with members of the office of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. They had one request: "Arrange us entry to Yosef's tomb in Nablus."
The meeting in Ramallah came about after difficulties emerged in recent months before the 'Yesod Olam' organization, which operates legal entry for charedim who wish to enter Yosef's Tomb in Nablus. Problems and difficulties members of the organization focused on, among other things, a much lower number of buses than the periods of law enforcement authorities who had confirmed their entry.
They also mentioned the fact that the organization buses have to wait outside the Nablus area for hours, late into the night, while other buses used by the settlers is favored by the IDF and other law enforcement, and those enter at a relatively early hour. They also complained that during recent arrivals into Yosef's Tomb there was no separation between men and women.
Chaim Reicher, chairman of the 'Yesod Olam' organization, tells B'Chadrei Charedim, that the main reason for this was due to the fact that "the settlers trampled through military ties and law enforcement contacts the haredi public," he says. Reicher said angrily: "all people want is to go to Yosef's Tomb in human form, just as other audiences do."
But according to the organization directors, no appeal which was sent to law enforcement authorities in recent weeks – received a reply. Consequently, there is a recent phenomenon of increased nighttime infiltration into Nablus. "The IDF will be forced to return to the dark nights," said a source involved in Nablus. "Shame how you treat us."
Even Hgr"a Berland, Shuvu Banim director, recently backed the infiltration into the area. This comes after a long period that his followers ceased to infiltrate following the murder of Ben Yosef Livnat hy"d - murdered near the grave two years ago.
Following the lack of response on the part of the law, the organization contacted Jabril Rajoub, a senior at the Palestinian Authority in recent weeks, and asked him to meet with them to open a direct channel with the PA - allowing the ultra-Orthodox to go often to Yosef's Tomb in Nablus.
This is how the meeting took place.
On Tuesday, shortly after 11 am, chairman, Chaim Reicher, Binyamin Machlev and other representatives who are engaged during the year in the entrance to the tomb of Yosef - arrived a meeting held in the Muqata, attended by officials from the office of Mahmoud Abbas.
The group was welcomed openly during which the Palestinian's thanked them for their cooperation.
They explained to the organization that they often engage in dialogue and discussion with officials in Israel, and will be happy to open another channel. The meeting lasted over an hour and at the end officials gave their agreement in principle to the request. However, they imposed the final approval granting of the authority living in Nablus.
B'Chadrei Charedim learned today (Wednesday), that prior to the month of Adar, an orderly entrance was planned to Nablus. But because of the attitude the charedim receive, they say, the Yesod Olam organization, banned the entry. "This time
