Efforts to consolidate the Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Yisrael along with that of Degel HaTorah produced, so far, only a convention of the Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Yisrael - to be held separately.
It appears that the Moetzet will meet already this coming Wednesday at Vizhnitz hotel in Bnei Brak, the Moetzet will be led by the Gerrer Rebbe and the Vizhnitzer Rebbe.
The Moetzet apparently includes the Rebbes of Ger, Belze, Vizhnitz, Erloy, Sanz, Seret Vizhnitz, Slonim, Boyan, Alexander, Modzitz and Sadigora - at the same time attempts are being made to include additional Rebbes and other Torah Sages. The Moetzet will be held jointly and will be conducted without a president, as in the past – when the Rebbes of Ger and Vizhnitz served as President of the Council.
The role of the secretary is expected to be Rabbi Mordechai Stern, the messenger who carried out the move, who actually commenced his duties before the elections, by signing the Gedolei Yisrael on the 'Call' for the Yahadut Hatorah list.
The first topic for discussion at the Council meeting will be the question of Yahadut Hatorah joining the government, the threshold conditions for membership and the red lines which will not be possible to pass. The Council's decision will be forwarded to Hgray"l Steinman and the Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah – for a joint decision.
Concerning the convening of the Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah – a date is yet to be determined. What is clear is that the conference which will take place on Wednesday will not be a joint meeting, contrary to self-interest publications on the subject.
Immediately after the meeting senior officials will try to get a joint conference with the renewed Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah, led by Hgray"l Steinman. But it is important to emphasize that at the moment there is still no projected date of such a meeting.
