Tel Aviv: The number of married couples decreases

Number of married couples in Tel Aviv decreasing: According to official data of the Tel Aviv Religious Council shows that in 2012, 2820 applied or marriage, a decrease of 5% in the number of applicants in 2011. The trend indicates a decrease in marriages which continues for the third year.

75% of couples who marry are under the age of 30. 10% of couples are over the age of 40.

Only about 25 pairs of divorced men or women decided to try their luck again and got married again to each other. It also shows that about 10% of couples chose to have their wedding in small synagogues and in the rabbinate.

In response to the data, Eldad Mizrahi, chairman of the Council said that "the data reflects a decline in the number of couples who marry at all in comparison to previous years. Quite a few couples tend to delay or cancel their wedding date which is also due to the economic situation and the reluctance of the existence of commitment ".

Mizrahi explained that there seems a fear of divorce especially when divorcing percentage rises every year - "it does not do well for the institution of marriage." He added: "We cannot ignore the supply of alternatives to marriages according to Daat Moshe Veyisrael in the form of streams and routes such as civil weddings or contracts and agreements between the couple which go and get momentum in recent years."

Mizrahi called to "check everything in terms of bureaucracy and marriage registration process at the rabbinate."

As reported last week, the number of divorces in 2012, according to the Council indicated that the rabbinical court in Tel Aviv, serving all residents of Gush Dan, divorced in the year 3187 compared with 3058 couples of the previous year - an increase of 4.2% despite the fact that in Tel Aviv itself there was a decline in 2012 in Tel Aviv who divorced - 711 couples, compared with 726 couples in 2011.
