An observant reserve soldier, recruited on Shabbos for Pillar of Defense and had to use his cell phone, was surprised to receive fines for using his device on Shabbos.

Soldiers who are Orange subscribers acquired a special program for people who observe the Shabbos, offering discounted costs for the non-use of the device on the weekends.

The program includes a section stating that a heavy fine is imposed on each call, incoming or outgoing, from the start of Shabbos until the end.

One of the soldiers, a resident of the settlement of Elkana, was among the recruits during Shabbos, and his unit called him twice to ensure his arrival. After arriving, he was forced to use his cell phone for further instructions from his commander.

These conversations amounted to three minutes each, each of which lasted about a minute.

But these days he was surprised to receive an invoice which also relates to the short period of military service, and includes a fine for these calls, which amounts to 64 NIS.

When he turned the company he was told that the call on Shabbos exceeds the program he signed on so he received a fine.

The latter explained that it was an exception due to the military operation, and after an argument, the company agreed to initially credit half the amount. After further talks he managed to receive the full credit, not in cash, but a benefit which will be credited in the future invoice.
