Panic on Shabbos • false alarm from Sderot to Ashdod

A false alarm startled the residents of the south, from Ashdod to Sderot, on Friday night, due to a technical mishap.

The alarm was sounded in Kiryat Gat and Ashkelon too. The IDF confirmed that this was indeed a technical problem and added that the Army will examine what caused the malfunction.

Around 1:20 at night, the false alarm went off in the South, and many fled to shelters quickly.

Yosef, a resident of Ashdod, told Behadrey Haredim: "On Friday night after the family had already gone to rest, we suddenly heard a siren. Were were sure that because of the tension in the north and the attack on Syria, a war began again. We quickly ran into the stairwell and there were a few other frightened neighbors."

During operation Pillar of Cloud, which began on 14 November 2012 and ended eight days later, more than 1,500 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, and "Red" alerts were continually sounded in the south.
