History: Gerrer Rebbe met with Hgr"o Yosef • view

History in relations between Agudath Yisrael and Shas: the Gerrer Rebbe arrived tonight (Thursday) at 20:45 on a special visit to Hgr"o Yosef, at his home on 45 Hakablan street, Har Nof in Jerusalem.

The Rebbe stayed at Hgr"o about 10 minutes, after which he left. The Rebbe was accompanied by Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman. At the home of Hgr"o, Aryeh Deri waited for the Rebbe too.

The meeting between the President of the Council of Sages of Shas and the Rebbe took place against the background of the coalition negotiations with the Likud and the coordination which exists between United Torah Judaism and Shas in light of the threat to the Torah world, and the demand of Yesh Atid party, headed by Yair Lapid, to enact a law for 'equality of burden'



At the beginning of the meeting Yaakov Litzman was standing. Hgr"o Yosef asked: "Why does R' Yaakov not sit? Sit down".

Aryeh Deri said: "He does not sit next to the Rebbe".

Hgr"o answered: "Sit R' Yaakov!"

The Gerrer Rebbe nodded his head to Litzman, and then he acceded and sat down at the table.

Yesterday (Wednesday), Shas leader Aryeh Deri met with the Gerrer Rebbe at the Rebbe's home in order to close the final details of the coordination between the two parties - and received his blessing. Deri was accompanied on his visit by the Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman.

Minister Eli Yishai said today that Shas and United Torah Judaism decided to pose a block during the coalition negotiations, to avoid harm to the yeshiva and Torah world, but noted that "in all other things we will work independently."
