Is Israel Police's hand on the trigger too quickly when it comes to arrests and the rights of Rightists?

Y., 17 year old resident of Beit El, wanted to visit a friend in Kiryat Arba. During the inspection at the entrance to the central station, a folding club was found on the body of Y. To the question of the guard, why he is in possession of a club, Y. answered that it is used for self-defense because he hitchhikes.

The guard was not satisfied with the answer and called the police.

The police detained the young man and he was taken to the Russian Compound. During a search on his body they found spray tear gas and nails a centimeter and a half long.

His possessions were taken from him and during his detention he asked to consult with an attorney on behalf of the Association 'Chaneinu'.

Y. turned to attorney Adi Keidar who asked to speak with the investigator. Apparently all the while the investigator sought legal grounds to ban the possession and arrest him. After attorney Keidar explained to him that there is no such reason that the detention is illegal, the investigator was forced to release him. But Y was forced to forego his trip to Kiryat Arba.

Recently there have been dozens of complaints about delays and false arrests which reached the Chaneinu organization, when the common denominator is the appearance of the person arrested, who is visibly a Hilltop Youth.

"Behind this phenomenon is probably an instruction by the high levels. In recent months there have been dozens of youths detained in various places around Jerusalem, only because of their appearance which includes a large cap and peyos," says attorney Keidar.

"I do not remember a delusional situation as this for many years, when an attorney explains to a police investigator that there is no prohibition in the law and although the researcher admits that, he insists to keep the detainee."

The boy intends to sue the Israeli police for false detention.

A response has not yet been received from the Jerusalem police. When it is received, it will be published
