"It should not come to the police "• embarrassment of the charedim in London

The tension in the charedi community of London is rising prior to the publication of research tonight (Tuesday) on Channel 4, which allegedly exposed a method - that, rabbis and community leaders are working on cases of child abuse and make sure to hide and cover up the cases from the authorities.

In the center of the research: Rabbi Moshe Chaim Ephraim Padwa, Av Beis Din and senior rabbinical figure in the British capital, who was videoed with a hidden camera whilst telling an avrech from the community not to file a police complaint.

According to the investigation claims, a yeshiva student who lives in London – who during his youth was allegedly abused by an education member of the ultra-Orthodox community, decided to call the police and complain about it. He came and requested the opinion of the Rabbi.

The avrech came to the home of Hgr"a Padwa, and the latter ordered him to hold back and not complain in any way to the police. The avrech who understood he is holding an explosive in his hands, brought a hidden camera and tape recorder, photographed and recorded the Rebbe secretly/.

The investigation shows the full conversation between the avrech and Hgr"a Padwa.

A short video clip broadcast yesterday on 'promo' to a full program on Channel 4 - and is presented here, the avrech talks with Rabbi Padwa and hears his opinion.

Full dialogue:
Avrech: I've come to you about a very delicate issue
Hgr"a Padwa: What kind of issue?
Avrech: Someone who did bad things to me when I was younger, someone who sexually abused me as a child. I am looking for your advice about what to do? I think it is someone you may have dealt with in the past.
Hgr"a Padwa: I think I may know who you are talking about, and if I am correct we are dealing with it.
Avrech: How is it being dealt with?
Hgr"a Padwa: The man is under control.
Avrech: Are you involved in dealing with it?
Hgr"a Padwa: I was involved, but…
Avrech: Do you think I should talk to the police about it?
Hgr"a Padwa: Oh no.
Avrech: Why?
Hgr"a Padwa: This is mesira.
Avrech: But this is a very serious issue.
Hgr"a Padwa: Yes, but not the police.
Avrech: Even if you think it happened to other people.
Hgr"a Padwa: Not the police.
Avrech: Even if you think it maybe be happening to other people?
Hgr"a Padwa: Not the police.
Avrech: How can you assure yourself that this man isn’t doing it to others?
Hgr"a Padwa: Look, the police also can't assure you. The police aren't a solution.
Avrech: If the police found out about it and called me, what would you say to me?
Hgr"a Padwa: I don’t know. Let's hope it doesn’t happen. In any case you shouldn’t do anything that can lead it to the police.

The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations headed Hgr"a Padwa, sent a response to the TV channel that reads: "The community sees child protection as the utmost importance. We have established a strong system to deal with child abuse, and we are working and will continue to work with the police and social services. The authorities realize, unfortunately, that there are parts of our community that it is inconvenient for them to attend a police investigation in these matters."
