Hgr"ch against peyos behind the ears: "ashamed?"

There was a surprising order this week at the home of Reb Chaim Kanievsky.

One of the Roshei Kollel in Monsey visited Reb Chaim with his children and his family.

Reb Chaim noticed that the peyos of the children are hidden behind their ears, as is customary by many of the beni yeshivas.

Reb Chaim turned to them and asked incredulously, "Are you ashamed of your peyos?"

The father came to the aid of his sons and apologized to Reb Chaim and said: "My grandfather did so, I do so and so do my children."

The answer did not satisfy Hgr"ch and said to the Rosh Kollel: "And if the grandfather was wrong, does that mean that his grandchildren should go after him?"

Notably, in his book Orchos Yosher, he mentions his father the Steipler zt"l who demanded of his descendants and disciples to accentuate the peyos and not hide them behind the ears.
