Jewish doctor was shot and killed in California

Dr. Ronald Gilbert, director of the Clinic of Urology, was shot yesterday at two o'clock (local time) at his clinic in Newport Beach California by an older man – who fired several shots at the doctor and killed him on the spot.

The murder took place in a room where the doctor checks the patients. Employees in other offices in the building heard gunshots coming from the clinic of the doctor - and called the police.

Police who arrived at the scene found the doctor dead on the floor, and the killer who remained still at the scene.

The police spokeswoman said that the death occurred at the doctor's office on the second floor of a building where there are additional clinics of physicians, and that the killer shot the doctor eight shots all over his body. "The shots were directed at the doctor and no one else was hurt."

An employee at the lab located on the third floor told a reporter at the Los Angeles Times that she heard the shooting, but thought that these are explosions of a construction company renovating a building. "What's going on in this world? First it was murdering children in schools, now doctors, I'm afraid to come to the lab, that maybe someone will kill me."

Police investigators and police cars arrived on the scene, the entire building was closed and no one was allowed to leave the building.

The murderer, an adult whose name has not been released, was taken into custody.

Ronald Gilbert z"l, was survived by his wife and two children. The Jewish community is working to avoid disgrace of the dead.
