6 year old child from Bnei Brak hospitalized with meningitis

A 6 year old boy from Bnei Brak has been hospitalized since Shabbos at the Schneider Hospital in Petach Tikva suffering from bacterial type meningitis, which is considered difficult and sometimes fatal.

On Shabbos afternoon the family identified that their son was not feeling well. At first, they did not attach great significance. Later, when one family member tried to wake his little brother from his sleep and he barely responded - he was taken to the hospital.

He arrived at the hospital emergency room, where he underwent tests which revealed that he was suffering from the deadly infection.

Today (Monday) after receiving antibiotic treatment, he transferred from the ICU to a regular ward.

Ministry of Health held vaccines for some students of the Talmud Torah, where he is studying, and his family who came into contact with him.

A relative of the child explained that the vaccines the family members had are to prevent the fear that they may have been infected even though the bacterium is not contagious. "His condition is improving," he said. "We hope he will soon be released back home."
