Chairman of the yeshiva board • Hagaon Rabbi Asher Tennenbaum zt"l

Baruch Dayan Haemes: at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, Rabbi Asher Tennenbaum zt"l, chairman of the yeshiva board and Rav of Givat Shaul in Jerusalem passed away at the age of 71.

Several years ago he became ill. His body systems collapsed this morning, after suffering pneumonia and heart failure - and he returned his soul to its Creator.

The deceased was born in Jerusalem on 5th Nissan תש"א to his father Rabbi Moshe David Tebnenbaum zt"l chairman of the yeshiva board, and his mother Mrs. Rivka.

His wife, Mrs. Shifra, is the daughter of MK Rabbi Menachem Porush the late chairman of Agudath Yisrael in Jerusalem, and the father of MK Meir Porush.

Since the death of his father he faithfully directed the yeshiva board. He was the one who signed the delay forms of the yeshiva students for the IDF, and was the envoy of the Gedolei Yisrael in various missions. As part of his role he took care of boys who had gotten in trouble with the recruiting office for various reasons.

However, the deceased was known for his concern that only a boy who really learns in the yeshiva will receive a delay for army service. He was a man of truth and integrity, and would not sign for just any boy on the delay form, just because he looks Haredi.

During the term of Harav Shach zt"l as president of the yeshiva board he was very close to him and he came to his house several times a week, he was also close to the Rebbe the Beis Yisrael of Ger zt"l.

He served as Rabbi of the Beit Midrash Mishkan Babad in Givat Shaul, and served as neighborhood Rabbi under the Religious Council.

He left a beautiful generation of children behind him: Nine children, grandchildren and descendants. Amongst them is his oldest son in law Rabbi Chaim Aharon Kaufman, Rabbi of Maalot Dafna neighborhood in Jerusalem. His sons the Rabbis: Rabbi Dov Meir, Rabbi Yaakov and Rabbi Yisrael - all teaching Torah.

The funeral will leave today from the Beit Midrash Mishkan Babad on Baal Hasheiltot Street in Givat Shaul in Jerusalem towards Har Hamenuchos, where he will be laid to rest.
