Who by water and who by fire • An elderly woman killed in a fire in Williamsburg

Who by water and who by fire, receive special significance for Orthodox residents of New York this winter.

A fire broke out last night (Motzei Shabbos) at a residential building of 13 storeys in Williamsburg.

Fire broke out at the Ross Street No. 51, populated mostly by haredi families. The fire broke out on the 12th floor apartment of an elderly Non-Jewish woman when her mattress caught fire.

Neighbors who saw heavy smoke coming from the apartment called the fire brigade who broke into the apartment and found the elderly woman dead.

Meanwhile, all the residents in the building were evacuated, and the fire department after a half hour managed to control the fire and prevent its spread.

A fire broke out on Friday in Borough Park on 52nd Street. Many fire forces and ambulances of Hatzalah arrived at the scene.

Firefighters worked hard and managed after some time to take over the fire, but many apartments were damaged, and extensive damage was done to property.

On Thursday, a fire broke out again in a home on Premishlan Street, Kiryat Yoel and six of its residents were left homeless.

The fire broke out probably due to sparks which still remain between the walls. Fire brigade arrived at the scene and decided to destroy the entire structure in a controlled manner to prevent another fire that may endanger the surrounding buildings.
