Sabotage? • Report: infrastructure destroyed by explosion in Iranian reactor

An explosion which occurred last Monday at Purdue's nuclear reactor destroyed most of the infrastructure of the facility – according to a report by the American news website WND, citing a former intelligence official in Iran. According to the report, 240 of the crew were trapped underground.

According to a source in the security services guarding the facility, a powerful explosion shook the area on Monday morning. The explosion shook buildings within a radius of about three miles, and the security forces declared the area blocked to traffic in a radius of 24 kilometers from the center of the blast.

Even the highway between Tehran and Chum was closed to traffic for several hours. As of Wednesday afternoon, rescue teams were unable to reach the trapped workers.

According to the report, the government in Tehran believes that the explosion was caused by deliberate sabotage and explosives were transferred to the area under the guise of equipment or supply of hexa-fluoride uranium. According to intelligence officials, the blast occurred in the third centrifuge cell, located above the reservoirs enriched uranium. According to the report the information has been transferred to U.S. government entities, but not confirmed or denied by them.

The report also noted that Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad convened an urgent meeting on Tuesday with Iranian intelligence minister, head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization and other officials.

So far the explosion has not been reported, if there was such, in major news sites in the U.S.
