On Motzei Shabbos Avraham Rubinstein came to the house of Hgray"l Steinman on 5 Chazon Ish Street, where he announced that he is the next mayor of Bnei Brak - and gave him his blessing in his new role.
Rubinstein, Secretary of Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah and a member of the municipality, was accompanied by Shmuel Epstein, after Hgray"l told his grandson David Shapiro to summon him.
From the moment the real results of the Yahadut Hatorah party came through, winning a record of seven seats, the race to position a new mayor of Bnei Brak began, instead of the present mayor, Yaakov Asher - who is retiring from his position after being elected to the Knesset as a third representative of Degel HaTorah.
Right from the outset it was clear that Avraham Rubinstein, a faithful household member of Hgr'ch Kanievsky, would get the role.
The publication delay was to improve attitudes and technical organization. As mentioned, on Motzei Shabbos - as was reported here in the first publication - he was summoned to receive his blessing.
Even before that, a handwritten letter by Hgr"ch Kanievsky was transferred to the hands of Hgray"l Steinman, which explicitly prompted Rubinstein for the role - though even without this letter, he would have been appointed.
According to the agreements between Agudath Yisrael and Degel HaTorah, each term there is a rotation as mayor. During the current term, Degel HaTorah nominee, Yaakov Asher, served. Next term Chanoch Zeibert, an Agudath Yisrael nominee should serve.
