Baruch Dayan Haemes: In a Manhattan hospital on Thursday afternoon (New York time) Rabbi Yisrael Weingarten zt"l, founder and chairman of the Association for Israeli cancer patients 'Darcei Miriam', passed away. He was 64 years old at his death.

The deceased zt"l went to Manhattan a few weeks ago – for a heart transplant, but unfortunately for all his friends and family, he did not make it on time for the transplant, and returned his soul to its Creator.

The deceased was born in Israel on 19th Iyar תש"ח to his father Rabbi Yechiel Fishel Weingarten from the Weingarten orphanage in Givat Shaul in Jerusalem, where he stood alongside his father helping orphans in raising them and marrying them off.

The Darcei Miriam organization was established in memory of his wife, Rebbetzin Miriam Weingarten a"h, the daughter of Rabbi Yosef Brachoman zt"l, who passed away 10 years ago from a malignant disease - and in her memory the organization established to help patients in need.

When his wife was hospitalized he began driving people to and from hospital, and after her death turned the aid into an organization. Currently the organization is driving every month thousands of people to the hospital, and the organization also established stands in hospitals for hot and cold drinks and baked goods.

He was a man of chesed with all his heart and soul and a tremendous talmid chacham. He used to hand out stamps for clothing before the yomim tovim for patients families.

He is survived by a beautiful generation: 13 children, including his son Rabbi Aharon Weingertan, who was his right hand in running the organization.

The funeral wil take place today (Friday) at 14:00 at the Shmagar funeral home in Jerusalem, towards Har Hamenuchos where he will be laid to rest on Mount Tamir.

Shiva on 16 Ben-Zion Street, Kiryat Moshe in Jerusalem, under the Mishkan Shimon synagogue.
