Avodah Party chairman announced that she would recommend him for prime minister before the president, but Yair Lapid decided tonight (Wednesday) that Israel is going for another government under Benjamin Netanyahu.
Chairman of the Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, made a media statement on his doorstep in Ramat Aviv Gimmel in Tel Aviv, calling Yachimovich to retreat from the possibility of establishing a bloc. "I want to retreat this option. I will not create a bloc with Haneen Zoabi."
"Yesterday the citizens of Israel chose normalcy and hope," he said, "and color has returned to their cheeks. I heard the Prime Minister at the press conference talking about the things we talked about last year; equal burden, condition of the middle class and need of help in education and housing and all that matters to people who live here and love this place.
"I also heard the speech on the bloc," he added, "We will not create a bloc with Haneen Zoabi. We must work according to the election results.
"It is difficult to eliminate all the excitement," he concluded, "I want to thank the volunteers, young people who looked and said we will devote months and weeks without sleep for something we believe in, today there is something a little better."
Lapid's remarks came in response to the words of Yachimovich who declared that she is willing to recommend him to President Shimon Peres - to create a bloc against Benjamin Netanyahu.
Lapid's party officials told the media that "Yachimovich's trick will not work. She is trying to lock Lapid just in order to divert the discussion of the gloomy results of Avodah in the elections. If she really wants the good of the country then she must prove it, and call like us for a broad unity government."
Lieberman offers the treasury
Tonight (Wednesday) during a Yisrael Beiteinu meeting, Lieberman said that "there is no doubt that partner with 19 seats is a senior partner. We will negotiate and we are aware of that success and it will be expressed if he wants to join. Actually Yair Lapid, who talked a lot about the middle class and social protest, it is natural he will focus on domestic issues and might take the finance portfolio, but I'm bringing up a speculation and not something really serious, "Lieberman stressed.
In relation to the election results, Lieberman said: "I heard a lot of complaints in the elections, everything is boring and there are no dramas, at least the results provided us with real drama. It ended with very happy chords. It is certain that we will assemble the next government, and it's clear that Netanyahu will serve as prime minister of Israel during the next term. Union with Likud has achieved two things: continuity of the national camp as the one who led the country during the next term and continuity of the Prime Minister in the next term. Without the union the picture would probably have been completely different."
Concerning the next coalition, Lieberman said that "we do not reject anyone. There is no doubt that the charedi parties understand that you cannot go on like nothing happened and they also have to be flexible. Anyone who undertakes the principles will be more than welcome to take part in the coalition and in those changes."
