Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenazi, Rabbi of Kfar Chabad, was among the most prominent Chabad rabbis who recommended and pushed tens of thousands of Chabad chassidim to vote for Yahadut Hatorah.
But on Election Day a picture of the rabbi was spread on the network, as he shows photographers at the ballot box the note of the Meretz party - not really a party that a chassidic rabbi should support.
So anyone wondering, here's the story behind the picture:
Hgrm"s Ashkenazi is known for his wit and sense of humor. When he reported yesterday at the polls in Kfar Chabad and saw the photographers standing in front of him, he took the note of Meretz - and said with a smile: "When the Mashiach comes, and everyone will do teshuva, Meretz will be the most charedi list ..."
And that is how the picture of the Rabbi holding a Meretz note came about.
