Police arrested two Bedouin brothers who planned a series of attacks in Israel, including suicide bombings and rocket launches • They were assisted by an IDF soldier who sold them weapons in exchange for drugs

Indictment: Bedouin brothers planned to launch rockets

It has been released, that in the joint activities of the ISA and Israel Police / central unit Negev, two Israeli Arabs brothers were arrested last month, Bedouin citizens in the Negev, who admitted to planning to carry out attacks in Israel, having contacts with terrorists in the Gaza Strip and abroad, preparing explosives and trying to assemble rockets to fire at Israeli targets.


Note that in this affair two Jewish Israeli civilians were involved – one of them an IDF soldier, who provided the detainees in exchange for drugs - weapons stolen from the army, which was used for the preparation of explosives and were arrested by the Israeli police.


The brother detainees, Abu Koider residents from the Negev are Mahmoud Yusef Muhammad Abu Koider, born in 1988, and Sameh Yousef Muhammad Abu Koider, born in 1991.

During the General Security Service interrogation Mahmoud admitted his intent to carry out attacks in Beer Sheva, including a suicide attack at the central bus station, a trampling attack at the Mirs building and an attack against Israel Railways, together with his brother Sameh. For the attacks Mahmoud gathered information on selected targets, and took an interest in the option to purchase a vehicle for the purpose of the trampling attack.


Mahmoud also admitted that he made pipe bombs in his house and he downloaded the assembly instructions from Web sites he surfed. Some were detonated in open areas, for their examination, and the rest Mahmoud planned on using against the police, who will come to evacuate family homes built illegally in the Diaspora.

Investigation also found that he planned to produce rockets and launch them at targets in Israel, and for this purpose he took instructions from the Internet and purchased appropriate materials in producing them. During Mahmoud's arrest these materials were found at his home, and instructions for making rockets and bombs were located on his computer.


In addition, Mahmud admitted that he purchased ammunition from a conscript soldier in exchange for drugs he supplied to him. The two also conspired to steal a gun from the base where the soldier served, but this plan was not implemented in light of alertness the soldiers showed at the base.

Mahmoud's investigation also revealed that he used to browse the web sites of the 'global jihad' officials across the world, and was influenced by their jihadist ideology, and from them he downloaded propaganda materials, including videos documenting terrorist attacks around the world. In addition, Mahmoud volunteered at the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization's website to carry out attacks against Israel.


As for Sameh, he admitted involvement in the production of devices along with his brother Mahmoud, he said, to use them against the security forces, which may come to demolish their home.

In addition, he admitted that he helped his brother Mahmoud to hide the stolen ammunition, while he was aware of his relationship with the soldier, who provided the ammunition to Mahmoud.


On 1/18/13 a severe indictment was filed by the District Attorney's Office Southern District Court in Be'er Sheva against the detainees.
