You missed it? • watch a rerun of 'Gimmel' conference

Central Election Conference of United Torah Judaism took place on Thursday night at the Jerusalem International Convention Center, when thousands packed the hall, and thousands more were left out after places ran out.

The conference was headed by Gedolei Yisroel, Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman and the Gerrer Rebbe, and with the participation of other members of the Council of Torah Sages.

The event was directed by the principal of the 'Seminar Hachadash' in Jerusalem - Harav Yeshayahu Lieberman, and opened with Ma'ariv, when the Chazan was Hagaon R' Simcha Scheinberg, Rosh Yeshiva Torah Ohr, and with reciting Tehillim by Hagaon R' Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, Rav of the Erloy community. Rosh Yeshiva of Sifsei Tzadik in Hatzor, Harav Asher Neihaus delivered opening remarks, followed by Hagaon R' Yosef Efrati, head of the 'Beis Midrash Le'Halakha in the Settlement'.

After the words of the master of ceremonies, the audience stood up and received Gedolei Yisroel with singing 'Yomim' and' Yifrach Be'yomov Tzadik, which lasted for several minutes.

The first speaker of the Gedolei Yisroel was the Rebbe of Belz, then the Erloy Rebbe's letter was read, due to his weakness which prevented him from participating in the event. Later on, the member of Council of Torah Sages Hagaon R' Yitzchok Silberstein spoke, followed by the Tzanzer Rebbe.

The central speech was given by a member of the Council of Torah Sages and Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevez, Hgry"g Edelstein, the mass audience began singing 'Yomim' again when Hgry"g began his speech.

Because of the importance of the event, Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman also made an effort despite his weakness and talked a few minutes about the importance of voting and the fateful campaign, when before the first words the crowd sang for several minutes 'Chaim veshalom yosifu lach', at this stage, Hagaon R' Yehudah Silman read a letter by Hagr"n Karelitz .

The final speech was given by the Rebbe of Vizhnitz.

The conference was attended by most members of the Council of Torah Sages, however Hagaon R' Chaim Kanievsky was absent due to weakness, Mhgr"n Karelitz was unable to attend due to marriage of his granddaughter, while HaGaon R' Shmuel Auerbach was not due to weakness.
