One million dollars, is the amount demanded by Arcady Gayedamak from Rabbi Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia.
Yesterday (Thursday), Gayedamak filed to the District Court in Tel Aviv, claiming that the Chief Rabbi of Russia caused him harm in the agreement case signed with Leib Leviev.
"Chief Rabbi of Russia concealed, destroyed or lost the partnership agreement held between Arcady Gayedamak and Leib Leviev under unclear circumstances, which raises serious concern of negligence and malicious intent," he says.
According to him, he signed a partnership agreement with Leviev in December 2001. At the diamonds advocate in Angola and Zaire.
Because of the need to hide the document from other factors, the parties deposited the only copy of the document in the hands of Rabbi Lazar.
When Leviev violated the terms of the partnership, he said, he turned to the Rabbi in order to get the deal, but the rabbi denied and said that the agreement is not with him.
Gayedamak says: "I had to file a court claim in London against Leviev," and that during the court hearings the rabbi claimed that the agreement was in fact a donations agreement, according to which Gayedamak agreed to transfer donations of hundreds of thousands of dollars on a monthly basis for the Jewish community in Russia.
The court rejected the rabbi's words and held that the agreement was indeed a partnership agreement; however with the proceedings, Gayedamak had to sign a settlement agreement with Leviev, whereby each party waives claims against the other party.
Gayedamak asked the court to summon the Rabbi to trial and require him to pay a million dollars.
