A severe blow to the Atra Kadisha: organization seniors received today a restraining order from archaeological sites.
At the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court a decision was made this morning (Tuesday) to remove Chezki Kalmanovitz, vice president of the 'Atra Kadisha', and Moshe Ackerman, an organization senior from archaeological sites for a long period of time, after the two were caught, and suspected that they are trying to damage an ancient site Jerusalem.
The site is a real estate project under construction in Ramot D in the city.
The case in question occurred two weeks ago, when the two leaders of the organization came to the excavation site and, allegedly, ordered the contractor to dig in certain places, although he was prohibited from doing so by law, since the site was declared a site under the supervision of the Israel Antiquities Authority. This was carried out in order to locate burial caves. IAA representative came to the building, reported to the police who investigated the case and those involved.
A police representative hinted at the hearing that the project contractor was threatened by the 'Atra Kadisha' members in various ways.
Judge Yaron Mientkavich accepted the arguments of the representatives of the police, that the two have targeted antiques on ideological grounds.
According to the decision, they were removed from archaeological sites throughout the country for three half months.
Attorney Rafi Shtub, representing the organization leaders, argued at the hearing that the police request to keep them away for a long time is a "delusional request." He explained that there is no place to come and suddenly ask to impose new release conditions on non-detained citizens.
In a conversation with B'Chadrei Chareidm, Shtub added and said that next week a hearing on the appeal against the decision will be held at the District Court, since there is no logic to remove a person from all sites across the country just because he allegedly offended one site. He said officials were investigated by the police two weeks ago. The contractor was also - and released.
