The battle for mayor of Petah Tikva was decided tonight (Tuesday) after most of the members of the City Council voted for Uri Ohad, a candidate of "Sie" faction, who served as chairman of the opposition.

Ohad will replace Mayor Yitzhak Ohayon, who was forced to retire due to illness.

The battle of the role of Ohayon's successor was held recently between Shas candidate, Uriel Boso and Uri Ohad. Both candidates declared, privately, the promised victory and their success to achieve the majority needed at least 14 votes.

But over the last day, obstacles appeared which blocked the passage of Uriel Boso to the chair he'd been dreaming of.

As reported this week in Behadrey Haredim, over a week ago a letter was sent to State Attorney Moshe Ledor asking him to reject the candidacy of Uriel Boso, since his name was involved in the bribery case of the municipality.

The letter threatened to send the petition to be submitted to the court if the letter will not be taken seriously.

Yesterday (Monday) a legal petition was filed, demanding the prosecution's opinion on the subject. Indeed, the prosecution made it clear that the appointment of Boso "not proper". However, it stressed that the final answer is left up to the court.

Among the municipality Boso's support cracked of behalf of part of the council. The first to withdraw his support was member of city council Yaakov Felheimer and immediately after, the NRP -whose votes were decisive - announced that it would support Ohad.

Uriel Boso then realized that his chances are few.

In the afternoon, he met with Ohad and informed of his supporting him. At the end of the meeting, announced the removal of his candidacy to the position.

As mentioned, in the evening the Council decided with a majority that Ohad will replace Ohayon. Ohad's relationship with the hareidi public are supposed to be good and especially the Litvishe public.

In the last elections, he won the support of Hagr"y Rosen, head of Yeshivat Or Yisroel. Now too, he received his quiet support.
