Strassler called the broadcast "Nazi": a requirement to remove him

No end to mutual blows: economic commentator of Haaretz, Nechemia Strassler, called the Political Broadcast 'asterisk conversion' of Shas "Nazi" - and Shas require suspending him.


In a letter sent by the party to Channel 2 director Avi Weiss, chairman of Channel 2 News and Press Council president Dalia Dorner, leaders of Shas say: "Some things should not be held back on and we must not give them a place in the public discourse."

Shas also commented on the fact that the comment was made during a Shabbos program, while they were unable to respond. At the conclusion of the letter Shas demands an apology on the harsh words, and seek to suspend Strassler from media activity until they receive this apology.


The letter was signed by the Attorney General of Shas, Mr. Nadav Asahel.


The following are selected quotes from it: "This event crosses all red lines and is unacceptable and does not allow forbearance or connivance.

"Criticism can and should be said, however, there are statements which are unthinkable and should be denounced shaken decisively and immediately. There are statements which should not they have a place in the public discourse in Israel, and the most prominent was made by Strassler and its derivatives, and so on terminology related to the Holocaust. Not everything is allowed to be said by a publicist, in his preaching over the public broadcasting screen.

The letter continued: "These words are very severe because they were not made in the heat of debate, but planned in advance and cradled coolly and deliberately. The impact is even worse due to the high percentage of viewers who watch the program and since we did not have the opportunity to even respond to statements and condemn them when the program airs on Friday night. We demand from channel 2 to suspend Strassler immediately from presenting on screen until a clear apology is not heard from him."

"The broadcast is Nazi, I have no other words"

Strassler chose to radically attack the Shas party's election broadcast - an asterisk conversion, and called it "Nazi". "It is just Nazi, I have no other words," he said. The remarks were made in the program in the Friday News Channel 2.


The broadcast, which aroused widespread public uproar, is to show the public the ease with which it will be possible to convert, according to Shas, if it will be up to Yisrael Beiteinu.

The interpretation (wrong in my opinion, S. R.) given by Strassler was that the broadcast shows the bride as one who chose to cheat the eastern groom and marry him in order to receive the unnecessary certificate of conversion: "It's like presenting an Aryan vs. a Jew. Imagine 1933 in another state, where a Jew is displayed cheating an Aryan, and presented as a danger.


"They brought Aryeh Deri to bring out once in every four years the ethnic genie out of the bottle. Following the elections he will be put back into the bottle," he added.
