The capital City of Jerusalem was covered in white: After a brief pause, a blizzard began tonight (Wednesday) in Jerusalem.

Transport to the city and inside it shut down completely. There are no buses to the capital and from it, and the municipality began clearing roads.

The snow began at 21:00 or so. Weather Today in Jerusalem ranged from 5 degrees to 0 degrees C, and forecasters estimate that it will continue to drop.

Later today the rainfall will diminish around the country, and even though we are before the peak of cold, one can see the end. "Today it is still likely to snow in the mountains and rain, accompanied by thunderstorms. The remaining part of the country during the day the rainfall will weaken and diminish. From the afternoon, a reduction in snow and rain has been observed."

Police ordered to close Highway 1, the main artery connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. In addition Highway 443 was closed in both directions from Beit Horon to Ofer Camp.

In the afternoon, light snow began to fall in Jerusalem. The snow began to fall in the morning - first snow flakes on Mount Scopus, Gan Sacker and the neighborhoods Gilo and Romema - and then the rest of the city.

In the mountains of Central Israel, Gush Etzion, Beitar Illit, Kiryat Arba and Hebron it is snowing too. The snow will be strengthened by the morning. In the coming hours, snow will fall in places 700 meters high and over, throughout the country.

The city prepared for the snow with a hundred snowplows and another 40 tons of salt, at a total cost of about one million shekels.

In Jerusalem and Gush Etzion there will be no school.

In settlements of the northern Golan Heights and Galilee mountains peaks, a snow storm has been raging since the morning. So too in Safed, Manara and Kfar Vradim. In some places in the Golan, snow accumulated in the morning to a height of about ten centimeters.

The water level in the Kinneret rose over the last day by about 16 cm, and thus rose by 55 cm this winter. The level is now at a level of -211.34, and is missing another 2.54 meters to get to the top.

Meanwhile, thousands of residents of Hadera have not yet recovered from the harsh night they had. The city was flooded, and a sub-station of the IEC was damaged. As a result, residents were without electricity last night, and therefore also had no air conditioners or heaters to heat the house.

At 7:15 the Electric Company spokesman announced that the company managed to reduce the number of residents without power to about 2500 people. Hadera Municipality said that due to the floods in the Beit Eliezer city – schooling will not take place there. Even special education throughout the city was canceled
