President of the Council of Sages of the Shas party, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, felt ill on the Shabbos morning, before going to daven, and at eight had already been evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.
A doctor at the scene diagnosed that Hgr"o had suffered a mild stroke, and therefore decided to transfer him to Hadassah.
The Rabbi, 92, is hospitalized in stable condition and conscious, and even made havdalah on Motzei Shabbos. He is expected to remain under supervision in hospital for the night, and his son Rabbi Moshe Yosef will stay at his bedside and his oldest son, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef will deliver the weekly lesson tonight instead.
Hgr"o passed a series of tests at the hospital, after which the doctors should decide whether there is need for further hospitalization and additional treatment.
During Shabbos two of Shas's leaders- Aryeh Deri and Eli Yishai came to visit Hgr"o in hospital.
Minister of the Interior, who was praying with Hgr"o, told the sequence of events: " once the medics decided to take the Rabbi to hospital I began walking there, where he has been until now," according to him the rabbi's condition has improved, he added that during the last period the Rabbi took to heart the draft decree danger hovering over the yeshiva students.
Etty Dvir, a spokeswoman for Hadassah, said on Motzei Shabbos that Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was brought in this morning to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital after feeling unwell. Comprehensive tests have shown that he apparently had a mild stroke. After consultation with his private doctor Professor Yochanan Shatsman and his family, it was decided to hospitalize him in Hadassah for a few more days to perform additional testing, surveillance and rest. The Rabbi's condition is good, he is fully conscious all the time and fully communicating with those around him.
Please pray for the speedy recovery of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef ben Georgia.
