Because of the storm: Vizhnitz yeshiva trip to Miron canceled

Students at the Vizhnitz yeshiva network were supposed to go to Miron today – to take advantage of nittel day to pray at the tomb of Rabbi Shimon, in the presence of the Vizhnitz Rebbe who resorts these days in Safed.


However, due to the stormy weather and floods on the roads in many parts of the country, it was decided to postpone the trip until another time.


Most Hasidic communities practiced the nittel custom – when one does not engage in Torah study.


There were gedolei yisrael who used to play in chess on this day.

It's been told of the Beis Yisrael of Ger that on this day (Polish nittel which occurred on Dec 24) used to prepare tissue paper for Shabbos for the whole year.


On small nittel, two weeks ago, the Rebbe instructed students to go to bed early and get up early morning, several hours before the routine time to complete the missing study hours.

This is the instruction given each year. Due to the cancellation of the trip, a similar order will be probably given.


The Vizhnitz yeshiva is alert and waiting for the order of the Rebbe. The disappointed boys were assured that this is not a dismissive but postpone only.


Due to the weather conditions even a large gathering of Gedolei Yisrael for the elections, scheduled for Wednesday in the Binyanei Hauma, was postponed for Motzei Shabbos.
