Photographer unknown: 'Victor' stings innocent people

There is no event, large or small, Bris Milah or a wedding, where you do not invite a photographer or photograph on your own. Perpetuating moments which will not return, and will stay only in your albums, brings many of us to reduce money out of our pockets, so we can enjoy the event even years afterwards.

But even in this industry, rogues have discovered its potential - and decided to make easy money on the backs of those who innocently book them.

Reporter of IDF Radio, Hadas Shteif tells in her Facebook page this morning, of the 'photographer who lost his image'. A hareidi couple decided to hold the Bris Milah of their eldest son, in good Mazal, at the Beis Midrash of Hgr"o Yosef. The one who heard about it and offered his "good" services was a photographer by the name 'Victor', who pre-determined price and also showed up to do his work at the Bris.

The latter clicked flashes in all directions, took respectable advance fees and concluded to be in touch with them to supply the images. So far all seems good.

But days went by, and he does not call to notify that the images ready. Desperate phone calls to the number that he gave the couple were unsuccessful. The photographer disappeared and went into a tailspin. An investigation by the parents revealed that this is an evil phenomenon: 'Victor' pushes himself into events without reservation. He goes up to the ones holding the Simcha or event, and offers his work, gets money and disappears. Those fortunate enough that the event was attended by other photographers, remains with a memento. One who relies only on the anonymous guy, is left with nothing.

A number of complaints have been filed with the police against the man, following his fraudulent proliferation. Others also filed lawsuits against him at the small claims court, but the latter did not bother to appear before the court and certainly not at his investigations.

The conclusion is clear: Do not book a photographer you do not know or did not you get recommendations from acquaintances or family members. The early joy, may turn out to be a greater distress than the actual joy.
