After a long walk it turned out - Helfgot did not appear

Rama synagogue members in north Tel Aviv were disappointed this morning (Shabbos) when they found out that the Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, who came from New York, will not daven mussaf, as planned.


For years, the attorney Pesach Moore, a Holocaust survivor holds a special chazanut on Shabbos Parashat Shemos at the synagogue in Tel Aviv. Chazunut buffs from around the country prepare themselves in advance for the Shabbos.


This year, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot was invited and came straight from New York, where he lives.


Many visitors and residents of Bnei Brak walked to the synagogue which was filled to capacity.


Helfgot was supposed to daven shacharis and mussaf. And he did.


But at the beginning of mussaf – the highlight - it turned out that Helfgot will not daven, since the chazan had come down with a cold as a result of the winter weather and his voice was husky.


Gabbaim and organizers took counsel, and instead of Helfgot - Mordechai Sobol went to daven.


The one, who won the choir, was his son, Ofir Sobol.
