Estee Ackerman, a 6th grader from New York, gave up on the possibility to handle the event of the U.S. Championship table tennis games for young people after she revealed that the next game she was supposed to play comes out on Shabbos.
"I advanced the round after winning the last game," she told New York Times, "and when we looked when the next game that I'm supposed to play comes out on, we saw it was supposed to take place on Friday night, and I was very disappointed.
"I practiced and practiced for half a year for the league, and the game is important to me, but religion is more important."
CEO of the industry in the United States said that in organizing the games most efforts were made to suit everyone.
He said the organization is considered to be difficult especially in light of the fact that the 800 players are supposed to play in less than a week.
"I will try to be accepted in the future to the Olympic team," said Estee. "Maybe one day I will bring honor to my country."
Estee Ackerman is ranked fourth in the league for children ages 8 to 11. One sportsman in the industry who revealed her talent said that history had shown that Ackerman won games against youths aged 20 and 30 year-old professional athletes and she is a talented girl and professional in the field.
