"Pray only in Ashkenazi pronunciation, do not visit libraries"

School, Talmud Torah and kindergartens enrollment season began, and with it are popping up registration conditions of the various institutions.

The Beis Yaakov in Ramot 3, directed by Tzishinsky, sets rules shown to parents wishing to enroll their daughters in the elementary school that students commit to pray in Ashkenazi pronunciation and that a student who does not commit to it - is not accepted. With this requirement, there are additional requirements: Kosher phone and computer for work purposes only, and not allowing the girls to connect and talk with friends that are not part of the chinuch atzmai.


Additional condition: the students are forbidden to visit libraries and they must not borrow books - except from the school library.

In addition a draconian questionnaire was attached for parents, including collecting details which were banned by the Ministry of Education, where the leading detail banned is about the father's place of prayer or study of the father and the mother.


Attorney Yoav Shalom, from the Noar Kehalacha said in response: "This is not the first time we're seeing the Ministry of Education is nothing but a paper tiger, and racist institutions principals ride on it to override the Sephardic students.

"The Ministry of Education takes care not to enforce the regulations, and when he enforces them, the grounds are not enforced, because in reality almost all schools of the Beis Yaakov in Jerusalem are forcing the girls to pray according to the Ashkenazi pronunciation and version contrary to the tradition of each girl and contrary to the halacha."


Following the request ofKol Israel, the Ministry of Education will investigate the case.
