England: awoke from stroke - and began to speak in another language

Alan Morgan, an English 81 year old, who recently awoke from a stroke, discovered that he was not able to speak his native language. Instead, he found himself talking regularly a language which he had never learned - Welsh.

According to the report published in the media in England, although Morgan was actually evacuated to Wales during World War II, where he learned a few words in the local language. But decades have passed since during which he did not speak the language, even though his wife originated from Wales.

Morgan was in a coma for three weeks. When he returned to consciousness he began to speak Welsh fluently. Initially he not realized that he was not speaking in his native tongue, and his wife was the one who brought it to his attention.

Morgan told the BBC that it took several days before he could speak again in English. He says he is still experiencing some problems regarding speech. "English words are coming back to me gradually, but it's not easy."

While his knowledge in English is returning, Welsh words are beginning to fade from his memory.
