Those who thought that the days in which President of Israel, Shimon Peres was named, 'a ceaseless subversive' - passed from the world, is welcome to follow the exchange of harsh words recorded today (Sunday) between the Prime Minister and the President in response to the things he said.
It was morning, when the president opened the conference of ambassadors and heads of missions in Israel and the world, at a special meeting held at the President's residence, with about 160 ambassadors.
At the beginning of the event, the President spoke, in which he addressed key policy issues on the agenda of the State of Israel, and Israel's international situation.
"Deep transformations are occurring in the Arab world and the State of Israel which is not part of them may adopt a passive position - in which the reality will decide on the decision, or that Israel can take the initiative and bold steps, and make a positive impact on three channels. First is the completion of the peace agreement with the Palestinians without delay. Most of the people clearly favor the principle of two states for two peoples.
"I have known Abu Mazen for 30 years, we don’t support every word and deed without criticism, but I also know the reality, in which Abu Mazen is the only Arab leader who got up and said publicly that he is in favor of peace and against terrorism. The acts of Abu Mazen to prevent terrorism are brave and he risks his life. Put yourself in his shoes, and you will realize that his understanding for solving the right of return, and the fact that he will not return to Safed – his hometown, are important statements and those of courage. There is not much time, in terms of probability it is a process that can be done today.
The President continued: "We must say honestly that those who don’t want a two-state solution should offer an alternative solution, what will replace it? What's the future of Israel? If not, the reality will determine the solution, not us. A bi-national state is danger to the Zionism, the Judaism and democracy of the State of Israel. I would want us to live together as twins, but in such a small country with a deep hatred, suspicion and cultural gaps - it's not possible."
"I'm not going into political issues, but polls show that most people want peace and that the debate is not whether it can be obtained, but skepticism and concerns are what's facing the people."
"It is unfortunate that the president presents a political stance that encourages condemnation of Israel"
Peres continued, spreading his teachings: "Israel took the disadvantages of natural resources, and has made them into benefits by using the human capital, through man. Our relations with China, India, Latin America and South Africa began and strengthened due to the technology. We must continue to contribute to the world the knowledge and technology produced in Israel, and thus we will continue to prevent the suffering of the people, whether it's neighbors or the world. We do not enjoy it when there are people suffering in Gaza, and die of hunger in the world, we were and will remain not only a Jewish state, not only democratic, but also a human state - this is our largest diplomatic strength."
The third channel which was addressed by President Shimon Peres is changing the diplomacy of Israel: "The purpose of diplomacy has always been recruiting members and not the establishment of enemies. Life experience has taught me that diplomacy is the art of the possible; we must change a militant approach to a moderate approach of dialogue and what seems to be impossible will be possible if we act wisely. "
Prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, hurried to comment sternly, "out of respect of the president we will refer only to the general statements. It is unfortunate that the president chooses to express a personal political opinion which is detached from the position of the Israeli public about Abu Mazen who refuses peace."
"It is even more so unfortunate, that the president chooses to display precisely to foreign ambassadors, a politic standing which encourages the condemnations of Israel in the international arena. The Prime minister called dozens of times to Abu Mazen to come back to the negotiating table, and we worked hard for it. Unfortunately Abu Mazen - who refused even Olmert's offer - prefers to join Hamas and act against Israel in every possible arena."
"Too bad the president did not explain to the foreign ambassadors the inconsistent statements of Abu Mazen with the fact that he did not even condemn the rocket attacks on Israeli civilians."
