For 12 years Rabbi Yehuda Rosilio served as the Brosh rabbi. Residents at the settlement trusted him fully, but disappointment hit them last Simchat Torah when it was revealed - that the rabbi was responsible for replacement of the Torah parchment with cardboard paper.
A week after the arrest of the rabbi, two and a half months ago, Southern District Attorney's Office filed to the Peace Court in Be'er Sheva an indictment against him, for six counts of serious offenses – following the theft of at least five Torah scrolls.
On Thursday the Rabbi admitted during a plea bargain the charges against him, his sentence has not been determined, and it will be decided in five months time.
"G-d gave me a trial that I did not withstand and I was wrong," said the Rabbi to channel 2. "I use this opportunity to ask everyone for forgiveness, and I promise that until my last day I will do everything to return and try as much as I can to atone for all I have sinned towards the public and towards the Master of the Universe".
The Rabbi confessed his actions and explained that he had done them after encountering financial obligations totaling more than 160 thousand shekels with the underworld. "It happened in stages, like dizziness, something you do not plan in advance. These people harass you day and night, do not let you rest, caution you various warnings like 'We know where you live', or "Where your children are".
"This is the place to tell people not to be tempted and go to places like that, try to get help from family, friends."
