Visitors wearing kippas visit churches • New phenomenon?

People wearing kippas, religious and hareidi, who visited the church on Monday night in Beit Shemesh - caused an uproar, and received a wave of angry responses. Behadrey Haredim made a test: Is this phenomenon?

"The secular public almost entirely has the practice to visit churches," says Binyamin Kluger, Yad L'Achim activist, "Many visit to learn about the history, see the luxuty that exists in some places. Much of the secular public also comes to churches during events that take place there, supposedly to be impressed more than they would be impressed if the place was empty.

"The religious and haredi public knows that it is forbidden to enter a church, but there are those who enter innocently, or since they do not know there is a prohibition or that it's problematic."

Kluger admits that this is indeed a phenomenon. "While not large, still one that exists."

• Are you acting against it?

"Beyond the prohibition to enter the churches, there is no problem we'll have to fight through the organization's activities. The personnel of churches do not preach as missionaries and are not interested in preaching to Jews," says Kliger, adding: "Today it's the opposite, they convey messages of brotherhood between religions, and conduct their own rituals."
